I first met John Travolta several years ago at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE). He had just landed in his new Lear Jet and I was working on the left engine of our recently purchased Grumman Albatross. John looked up at me and said, "I hope you get that thing running so we can go island hopping", which is exactly what my partners and I had in mind.
After hamming it up with the line boys and flattering the pretty girls posing for pictures and signing autographs, John made a beeline for our giant flying boat. He immediately struck up a conversation and wanted to know everything about our upcoming seaplane adventure.
John was the nicest, most outgoing person I had ever met. As a matter of fact, he acted more like a student pilot than a rich celebrity who could buy and fly anything from a J-3 Cub to a Jumbo Jet.
This is an aerial photograph of John's new house. Yes, that's a Boeing 707 and John Travolta really is an Airline Captain!
John once said, "The only reason I take acting jobs is so I can earn enough money to buy and fly airplanes"
